Elephant Juice

Sadly, this elephant was never delivered to its intended recipient on Valentines Day. Lost in the post praps, or kidnapped by the Postman? Bad times.

MA Children's Book Illustration 2013

I had an inspiring afternoon yesterday at Foyles Gallery. The work on show was that of the graduating students of the MA Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art (the course I graduated from last year). Highlights for me were Gemma O'Callaghan, Daisy Hirst and Jemima Sharpe (winner of the Sebastian Walker Award for the Most Promising Student 2013).

Many of this years graduates will be exhibiting work, alongside myself and some of last years graduates, at the Bologna Children's Book Fair. If you're going, please come and check out our stand. AND don't forget to check out Zack Rock's work in the illustrator's exhibition. High five Zack.

Through a Hedge Backwards

Teaching on a Foundation Course has made me realise that I am, on occasion, guilty of not practicing what I preach (!) So, Becky Palmer and I have set up a li'l blog to post work on that we have challenged each other to create. Mainly, it will be the results of drawing tasks, devised to ensure we remind ourselves of the importance of observational drawing and engaging in drawing that is outside of our comfort zone.

I challenged Becky to draw the buildings where she lives in stick and ink. Here are the results!

My challenge? To draw three things beginning with 'F'. For February you see? (Watch this space). You can follow our future challenges HERE!

Off to Foyles we go...

I'm off to catch the last day of the MA Children's Book Illustration show at Foyles Gallery. Can't wait.

LOAf in London

Speaking of LOAf... he gets to all sorts of places.

Hector

There was the cat slopping its milk all day,
Fat cat, red tongue, green mind, white milk
And August the most peaceful month.
From, A Rabbit as King of the Ghosts, by Wallace Stevens.

I was lucky enough to be a part of LOAf magazine last year, a comics zine for 9-12 year-olds. It was a crowd funded project and in return for donated funds, I was rewarded with this beautiful, original artwork by Becky Palmer. She's called Hector.

Hello Beautiful

Hello Beautiful is an artistic concept that aims to strip out the negative energy associated with breast cancer and in turn highlight the beauty that can be found embedded within its struggle.

Please support my lovely friend Jane Hutchison. Like her Facebook page and follow the breast movement on Twitter.

Look out for exciting things to come!
